21st. Century? Grab Our Canes.

Do you know how they say that there comes a time when roles are reversed? When children become adults and parents return to childhood. Well I guess it's here. I just wasn't expecting it so soon.

The SeaMonkey has been resisting progress and still using a simple old flip phone. Not only that but, to the deep frustration of the girls,  for years he has staunchly refused to Text message. Would not do it under any circumstances.  As the owner of a business he finally realized it would be more professional to get with it. Calling the girls or his mom several times a day and hoping they were home to check his email when we are traveling and then dictating his responses was becoming a little too uncertain. Not to mention, if I told you what industry we are in you would say, "Are you kidding? ", which is what the guy at the phone store said when the SeaMonkey told him his occupation and that this was his first smart phone .

Anyway...Needless to say he was like a little kid at Christmas last night. He was so inspired by his new toy that he actually decided to Text Message! I heard him giggling downstairs and my phone chimed to reveal, I Love You : ). But that wasn't enough, he couldn't wait to surprise the girls and immediately sent a text to Middlest:

OMG! I'm texting.

To which he received a prompt reply:

OMG! I'm working.

Yeah. Any day now they will be whispering behind our backs and going silent when we walk in the room. Putting their arms around us and being understanding and suggesting that driving might be a little much for us these days with the car keys being lost in the freezer behind a Pink Floyd CD and that piece of baloney being found in our music collection.

  1. Hahahaha! Hubby and I are still resistant, although I do text on rare occasions. I prefer to text from the computer, where I have a keyboard. Plus, this is usually where my fat a$$ is sitting!

Congratulations to hubby on moving up in the world!

    1. I actually prefer a text to talking because I have a little hearing problem but I have the web blocked on my phone so I don't even hit it by accident!

  4. Welcoming him to the world of smart phones. It's like Hotel California. You can check-in but you can never leave. Pretty soon he will discover the Facebook app. :-) Maybe even FarmVille. Haha.

    1. Nope! We don't do facebook. It was bad enough having his freakin high school girlfriend at every softball game and practice the girls had as kids.

  5. My mom has the iphone 4S and is busy dropping the F bomb on Siri. Rob clings to his flip phone, refuses to text and often turns the damned thing off so I can't reach him. Grrr. Glad to know the SeaMonkey is evolving.

    1. GPD, Ummm, we actually had some F bombs landing around here this morning due to a call he couldn't answer in time. It went something like, "I hate this F--- phone!" along with threats to put his SIM back in the old one. He's figured out how to make it use voice command so he doesn't have to touch it, for everything except...answering ; )

  6. LMAO! My husband does the same thing. The kids actually refuse to answer the phone, because "who does that?!" and the Pink Floyd and bologna .... would you think less of me if I said that may have happened here a time or two? ;)
    -Love your daughter's response.

    1. Not at all! You wouldn't believe the series of strange things I did this week. My mom once put a package of boloney in the freezer and was completely stumped trying to find it. For years any time she was missing anything my brother would ask her if it was in the freezer : )

  7. lol how sweet. You know what....beware because if he gets like my husband they'll be taking the keys sooner than you know it. My husband is so dependant of his phone I tell him tha't the reason he loses and can't remember nothing! He speaks in it instead of typing. Soon he won't be able to spell nothing! He has to pay my kids to find stuff for him.. like his keys, glasses etc. He's falling fast . LOL

    1. Oh God Nicole, that cracks me up! It didn't take much time at all for my husband to find the voice feature and now that's all he uses : ) But my favorite part is that a long time ago he asked me to put his contacts in his phone. I put my number in as Gorgeous Wife. Now every time he calls me he has to say it and the best part is the thing starts yelling out, Calling Gorgeous Wife- Calling Gorgeous Wife! I love it ; )
